Asia Cup 2022: There Are Better Fast Bowlers In Indian T20 Than Mohammed Shami

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting pointed out that Mohammed Shami had fallen behind in the race to make it to the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year following his exclusion from the Asia Cup squad.

Shami is not in the picture anymore with regard to the shortest format of the game due to the emergence of young prospects. The likes of Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh have overtaken Shami in the pecking order.

He’s been a very, very good bowler for India for a long time now. If you look at his strengths, his Test cricket is probably where he thrives the most,Ponting told the ICC.

“If there’s potentially four named in the squad he might be the fourth man” – Ricky Ponting

Although the Asia Cup squad is a clear indication that Shami isn’t in the fray, the selectors might reconsider their decision and add an extra pacer for the fast and bouncy pitches in Australia.

I think there are better fast bowlers in Indian T20 cricket than Shami and they’ve only named three (for the Asia Cup). So if there’s potentially four named in the squad he might be the fourth man in.”

I would think they’ll probably only have the four quicks coming to Australia. They’ll still want to bring a lot of spin here even though the wickets are probably not that conducive,” he also observed.
