Sri Lankan Navy has arrested six fishermen from the Palk Bay area and seized their boats on accusations of poaching in the country’s territorial waters. On July 20, the fishermen went fishing from Rameswaram port after obtaining permission from the Department of Fisheries.

Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said the way the ruling government is misusing central agencies including Enforcement Directorate is an indication that the democracy is in danger. “Our fight is to save the nation. Today, if they would have been in our place, they would have indulged in arson,” he said. Some congress MPs had today given adjournment motion notices in the parliament, alleging the government to misuse the central agencies such as ED, CBI and tax department.

Floor leaders of Opposition parties including Congress, CPI, CPI(M), IUML, NC, TRS, MDMK, NCP, DMK and RJD met in Parliament today. The opposition has been protesting in and outside of both houses of the Parliament over GST rate increase on essential items, inflation and other issues. The Parliament’s monsoon session commenced on Monday, but the houses were frequently adjourned as opposition parties raised slogans and disrupted the proceedings demanding debate on the price rise issue. Counting to begin at 11 am
The counting of votes to elect the 15th President of India will begin at 11 am on Thursday at the Parliament House. The counting will take place in Room No 63 in Parliament House and the result will be declared immediately after the counting. The immediate precincts of Room Number 63 have been declared as sanitised and “silent zone”. Only counting officers, officials deployed to assist the Rajya Sabha Secretary General, candidates and one authorised representative of each candidate, observers appointed by the Election Commission and media persons with valid passes will be allowed entry into the counting hall. Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody is the returning officer for the Presidential election. The voting took place on July 18 and was completed in a peaceful manner.
BJP to hold ‘Abhinandan Yatra’ to mark Murmu’s victory
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday will be organising a road show ‘Abhinandan Yatra’ in the national capital to celebrate the likely victory of NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. As per the plan, after declaration of election results, BJP chief J.P. Nadda will hold a road show from party’s Delhi unit office at Pandit Pant Marg to Rajpath on July 21 evening. Over 5,000 Delhi BJP workers will participate in the road show along with Nadda.
‘Vijay Diwas’: Odisha’s Uparbeda village all set to celebrate
Uparbeda, the tribal village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district where NDA presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu was born, is in celebration mode and counting the hours when the result of the presidential election would be declared.
